Going With The Flow

L-52

“Everything in the universe has a purpose.  Indeed, the invisible intelligence that flows through everything in purposeful fashion is also flowing through you” – Wayne Dyer. Continue reading

You Can’t Change What You Don’t See

Between_Darkness_and_Wonder2

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice; and because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there’s little that we can do to change, until we notice how failing to notice changes our thoughts and deeds.” – R.D. Laing

Disappointment

“Disappointment is the feeling of dissatisfaction that follows the failure of expectations or hopes to manifest.” – Wikipedia.

Society teaches us to put on a “happy face” and “spin” that disappointment into a positive!  I say FEEL IT.  It will not kill you.  It is ok to be down in the mouth.  Go ahead and wallow in some self pity.  Give yourself permission to be authentic, to express your hurt, to feel all those range of emotions.  Is it even possible to feel deeply while denying some feelings?

How Failure Brought Me Joy

The secret of life is to fall seven times and to get up eight times.” – Paulo Coelho.

When I was 17 I had a plan.  Get a college degree.  Check.  Have a 6 figure income career.  Check.  Use my creativity, so I renovated old homes and managed them along with my full time career.  Check.  Get married at 30.  I was 29.  Check.  Have kids in my mid 30’s.  Check.  Be a good mother.  Check.  Have a nice home.  Check.

One day I asked a daring question.  Am I happy?

Somedays We Struggle.

Some days are harder than others.  We struggle.  We feel like the world is working against us.  We are tired.  Everything seems like work.  The pressure builds.  We have an uncompleted to do list.  We feel as though we have no legs and no arms but are being asked to jump off the diving board.  Impossible right?

Creativity Is The Escape

creatividadWe get stuck.  We may feel overwhelmed or exhausted. We can’t see how to pay off this mounting debt.  How to expand our company that has hit a wall.  How to bond with our children that seem off the wall.  How to amend past mistakes or heal past wounds.  Most importantly how to find peace in the daily grind we flippantly call “a life”.

Even those rays of sunshine out there full of life, optimism and joyfulness hit a wall on occasion.  So what’s the difference between the person who occasionally feels defeated and, at the other extreme, someone who is full of depression and gripped with constant fear the ‘other shoe will drop off’?

Is it not one feels free and one feels trapped?

Creativity is the escape.  Creativity allows us to consider the impossible.  To have courage we didn’t know we had.  To stretch beyond limits we thought were unreasonable.   We may resist.  We may pout.  We may shout “I can’t do this”.  Yet if we hang in there we will be stretched into a faster, stronger more powerful version of ourself.   Continue reading

This work gives us the opportunity to change our state, regardless of our circumstances.  What if we had “no arms, no legs, no worries”?  What if we decided that our circumstances are no worse off than many ?  We decide we can.  We will.  AND we will  do it joyfully? Continue reading

P…….R………I………D………..E……….

peacock-colorful-hd-wallpapers

Few things bring to mind the concept of pride more vividly than a peacock.  They flash, they squawk, they mesmerize with their fluttering beauty.  Our pride creates the same distraction from our own personal growth.   Pride does not ask questions; it has all the answers.  Pride judges.  Pride tears down others to feel superior.  Pride sees only the reflection of it’s own rightness.  Like the peacocks we used to have that would peck their reflection in the sliding glass doors to bloody gruesomeness, unwilling to accept the reflection was not a foe, but its own image  Continue reading

Parenting Your Children so You can Grow Up!

parents_child_silhouette1

We went to the beach again to make up for the rain day we lost on our vacation. We let the children invite play mates to come so we had a carpool of five children ages 5 to 9.

The conversation turned to bullies in their classroom.  One child asked if my children had any bullies in their class, because they wanted to talk about a bully in their class. Our middle child asked what a bully was – cute!

The Silver Lining

hurricane

We went camping this week and it was wonderful!  It was a great analogy for life.  We are all faced with ‘internal’ storms everyday.  We can decide if we want to be happy and look for the positive or focus on the negative and be unhappy.  We knew the storm was coming and we were tent camping.  We decided to enjoy the overcast day at the beach.  We appreciated not being fried like an egg; silver lining to the clouds.  We slept well because the rain all night kept the tent cool; silver lining to the sticky heat of previous nights.   We did cut our stay by one day; silver lining the children were home in time to participate in a video.   Continue reading
